I am a married, work-from-home mom to two small children. My focus right now is attainable self-care while I still have a toddler home with me all day.
1. Weekly phone calls. I have about a 25 minute drive for school pick up for my son. Using that time to catch up with family and friends has been good for my soul. I feel more connected. More informed. More alive. After this past two years, it is needed.
2. Drunk Elephant face creams. I turned 40 last year. And with that came a long, hard look at my skin care routine. I needed an upgrade. Enter Drunk Elephant. I love all of the products I have tried. This cream is a daytime favorite, this one is great at night, this serum is great for added moisture, and this face mask is a once a week treat. You can mix them together in what they call “smoothies” to keep your skin hydrated. They are conscientious about the ingredients they use, the packaging is fun, and my skin has never been happier. Side note: the moisturizer does not have a sunscreen in it, so I would recommend this sunscreen for every day use.
3. Dry brushing: I had never heard of dry brushing until last year. I didn’t really know anything about my lymphatic system or that it might need help. I can tell a difference in how a feel after a few times of dry brushing. I wish I were more consistent, but it’s awesome when I do it. This is the dry brush set I have. You can find videos on YouTube to teach you how to do it.
4. Silk pillowcase: I love my silk pillowcase. I’ve even started traveling with it. It stays colder than cotton and makes my hair and skin look and feel better in the morning. Anything to look and feel less like a crypt keeper when I wake up is a win.
5. Insight Timer. It’s a free mediation app. I really want to be a person who meditates regularly, but it’s hard. Hard to find the time to do it, hard to find the space to do it, and especially hard to turn my brain off long enough to do it. Insight Timer has really helped me. The meditations are free. Some are guided, some are just music, and some are courses you can take. It has really helped calm my brain. After meditating for 26 days in a row, I finished a WSJ crossword puzzle from start to finish all by myself. I had never done that before. Coincidence?
